I am honoured to welcome you to the inaugural edition of Africa Police Conference; Heads of Government, Police Chiefs, Administrative Officers, Armed, Civil and Stakeholders to Africa Police Conference and Expo inaugural edition.
Africa Police Conference event holds immense importance for Africa nations, especially, toward strengthening of internal security mechanisms through cooperation and collaborative efforts. Africa Police Conference annual event platform shall play host to Africa police organisations, armed and civil security, international police organizations and partners as strategic platform for regular brainstorming, and share experiences on emerging threats, organized crime patterns and trends with a view to tackle insecurity, equip the police organisations and fulfilling her statutory policing duties.
The vision for police modernisation envisaged by governments is critical even as the subject matter has been of daily discussion for decades with little success achieved. The world is not immune to new age crimes, and police organisations and other armed security agencies need to be well trained and equipped with modern technologies. Apart from modern weapons, there is need to equip the police with capacities and capabilities to combat crimes: predict, interdict, mitigate, respond and recover. We need to use latest crime fighting techniques and tools to investigate crimes in all its facet. There is urgent need to adopt modern communication systems to intercept threats etc.
Today, in an inter-connected world, the world is talking of smart policing concept, modernization of police organisation has become one of major activity of governments. Smart policing not only takes care of civil society, rather it takes care of its own. Our Police needs to carry iPhones, tablets etc instead of lathis or rifles.
It is insightful to know that the present leadership of the Nigeria Police Force under my humble leadership as the Inspector General of Nigeria Police, we are committed to champion smart policing concept. Therefore, the transformation of Police organisations across Africa, indeed, globally shall become a promise fulfilled. Though, a herculean task, but we are confident that with the involvement of all stakeholders and international partners, we shall achieve the set goal.
In the 3-days of the Africa Police Conference, there shall be series of activities; entertainment and display of Africa cultures, drama, dance, academic sessions, exhibition of equipment and technology review. All this are packaged to make the event a memorable event in the heart and minds of attendees for years to come in consonance with the theme of the inaugural edition: “Transforming and Repositioning Africa Police Organisations for the 21st Century Policing Challenges”.
Once again, I welcome you all Africa Police Conference inaugural edition. Besides, invited are all security and law enforcement domain stakeholders to participate in what shall be known as Africa’s largest police conference and exhibition on police, armed and civil security. It is the right career opportunity for all those who are one way or the other involved in the business of security services.
